Expecting a child is one of the most exciting times in a woman's life. Unfortunately the joy of pregnancy may be overshadowed by the discomforts of pregnancy. An expectant mother may experience swelling, mood swings, back pain, aching muscles, and more. Luckily massage therapy may reduce some of these unwanted side effects of pregnancy. Expecting mothers can benefit both physically and mentally from receiving regular massages during their pregnancy. If a woman is only to receive massage therapy once during her lifetime, pregnancy is that one time.

POST NATAL MASSAGE- Having a new baby in the house can be stressful mentally and physically for both parents. Moments of relaxation are hard to find after the baby arrives. Nursing, lifting and carrying the new baby, diaper bag, car seat, and other care giving activities tend to add extra strain to the muscles of the back, neck and shoulders. Don't forget that massage can be just as beneficial after the baby is born.

WHEN MASSAGE IS NOT RECOMMENDED. Massage during pregnancy is very beneficial however there are circumstances when it is not recommended. Women with gestational diabetes or high blood pressure should talk to their obstetrician before receiving a massage. Body First always recommends you talk to your obstetrician before receiving any pre-natal massage.
